Matt Adams, aka The Blank Tapes, celebrated the release of his 13th album (in almost as many years), “Candy,” to rousing hoots and hollers of an appreciative local crowd packing the Hi Hat on Thursday night. Joined by a full band, including Veronica Bianqui on guitar and vocal harmonies, it was a night of blissed out country-folk-psych-garage rock venturing far off the mainstream path and highlighting some of the greatest songwriting from across his catalogue.

The show was opened by performers also off the beaten path: the hippie late-’60s/early-’70s flashback group Space Babies, solo electro looper (with a mesmerizing light show) Litronix and a pared-down version of Bloody Death Skull in full space gear.
