OcnSide is the new project from David Dennis and Tony Aguiar, who once comprised one-half of the quartet Voxhaul Broadcast. Since Voxhaul’s demise after an album and two EPs, Dennis and Aguiar had been involved in several projects, both solo and group, until last summer saw them get a unique opportunity: They had some time to work in Sound City Studios.
By the end of the summer, the duo had 25 tracks written and a new name. Of the name, the duo (who originally met as teenagers in San Clemente) says: “I guess we believe that there is a certain frequency that people experience when they live close to the ocean. The ocean feels like the promised land: free, forgiving and enduring.”
Their first single is a paean to summer romance — “Taking Me Over” arrives with a big hook, a chorus that oozes positivity and the buoyant feeling of two guys getting a fresh start. “The song is really just about love,” Aguiar says. “That all-encompassing and powerful feeling that love gives. Once you find it, you never want to let go and you never want it to end. You just let it take you over.”
