Bloodweiser is the punny name for the music of Massachusetts ex-pat Gregory Crotty. His songs revolve around something we’ll call The Four D’s — as Crotty lists them, “drink, dream, death, and more drink” — and no small amount of anxiety about life in general. How is that working for him? “I’m Fine,” he sings, almost believably, in the first Bloodweiser single.

The song is emblematic of the barstool fatalism that comes with long periods of beer-swilling and staring at architecturally spectacular pyramids of red-and-white beer cans. Guitars shift from grungey and biting to twinkling and pretty; cymbals crash like the inevitable hangover; and Crotty wonders, “Where do the days go / when I’m out of my head?” “I’m Fine” is a wobbly guitar anthem with a wallop, so you can feel fine, too.

The single, which is officially out on Friday, is the first from Bloodweiser’s full-length “Nothing Out of Something (Else),” which is coming this winter. Made with Criminal Hygiene frontman Michael Fiore producing, the album features the talents of multi-instrumentalist Jack Wellborn and drummer Ryan Wykert, along with contributions from Drew Beck (of Mondo Cozmo) and Michael Goldman (of AWOLNATION).
