Hooveriii blasted the Echo with space-rock bliss on Friday, celebrating the release of their self-titled album on Permanent Records. The band — singer-guitarist Bert Hoover (Mind Meld, Jesus Sons), guitarist Gabe Flores (Babylon), bassist Kaz Mirblouk (Numb.er) on bass, drummer Shaughnessy Starr (Jesus Sons, Triptides) and synth player Jaiq Styne — was joined by saxophonist Modeste Cobian of the Buttertones, who hopped into the crowd to surf as he often does.

Hooveriii’s set of beautiful chaos was preceded by an equally furious one from Frankie and the Witch Fingers, who were characteristically a blur of motion on stage.  The show was opened by a new group, Patrick Nolan & Perfection, an all-star squad of musicians from L.A. garage-rock groups, who may have stolen the show. The band includes Nolan (Meatbodies), Misha Lindes of SadGirl, Erik Jimenez of Together Pangea and Zoe Reign of No Parents, among others. Rather than garage-rock, the music steered toward funky vibes and shredding guitar solos.
