“Comfort in the Chaos,” the new single from Emma Charles, proves a starkly alluring memorandum to stay centered when the world seems to be screaming at you in all capital letters. Which, these days, seems like all the time.

The second single that Charles — born Emma Charleston, daughter of jazz singer and journalist Rondi Charleston — has made with writer-producer Doug Schadt, “Comfort in the Chaos” showcases the Berklee-educated singer’s airy yet precise vocals as she confesses “I don’t own the wind / I don’t own the light / I don’t own the sky …”

“‘Comfort in the Chaos’ is about releasing and letting go of the anxiety and stress that surrounds everyone, every single day,” she says. “I see the song almost as therapy — I sat and released my tension and anxiety and let it flow. ‘Comfort in the Chaos’ is a reminder to everyone to let go, and find peace wherever they are.”

Yasunari Rowan’s video for the song finds Charles, who has recently relocated to L.A., equally serene in nature or in the city. Get zen when the single comes out on Friday.
