The Undercover Dream Lovers

Musician Matt Koenig, aka the Undercover Dream Lovers, joins the L.A. scene fresh from New York, having completed an ambitious six-part film series encompassing all songs from his EP “In Real Time.” His latest single, “Right Now,” is his first completely made in L.A. Recorded and produced by Koenig and co-written with Roger Hallaway III, “Right Now” is a fine nugget of synth-pop with live drums by Billy DeLelles. Whereas “In Real Time” featured themes of struggling to escape a bad situation, “Right Now” is about seizing the present moment and breaking free to live your best life.

The video, premiering yesterday on Spotify, is directed by OTIUM and centers on Dani Bennett struggling through a merry-go-round of bad relationships (also starring Sam Drennan, Morgan Roberts and Zach Duncan) and karaoke cowboy country escapism with Koenig alternating between her jerk boyfriend and a musical foil to her fantasy-world. In the end, she breaks free into a real disco dance club and heeds Koenig’s call, “I’m right before you now / So find your way back / I’m your way back / I’m your way right now / Feelin’ like you’re always on the run / Turn this thing around right now / Give yourself a chance to have some fun / Right now.” Got plans tonight?
