All is not always well in the waves of the South Bay, as singer-songwriter Cory Wells shares the war in his heart in his latest single, “Patience,” released last month via Pure Noise Records. Blending lush layers of acoustic guitars with flourishes of an electric winding its way throughout, the Redondo Beach singer-songwriter airs his frustrations, from balladeer sad to death metal mad. Going from zero to 100 on a scale of regret, he sings, “Can’t escape this endless cycle / It won’t stop spinning in my head … Why won’t you forget? I want to forget.” It’s a troubled flame that keeps finding oxygen. The video, directed by Benny Gagliardi, features Wells on a lone drive in the desert where he puts his matches to use burning memories while lighting a cigar and having a deep think about his situation. The singer says, “‘Patience’ is a song I initially wrote a few years ago that was never really released. It’s about my experience with infidelity and the mental torment it caused to both parties involved. It is something almost everybody has to deal with at some time or other. It’s an issue that nobody should feel alone through. You are not alone.”

Pairing with “Patience,” Wells also released a stream of his single, “Lost,” a heart-wrenching ode reaching out to his younger brother grappling with addiction. “An ever-growing problem around us is drug abuse,” Wells says. “Opiates have taken more friends from me than I care to admit. The way my brother is handling this addiction has shown me for the first time that there is hope. Not everyone is lost forever.” The song shares what addiction can do to a family and circle of friends as he poignantly sings, “I’ve got nothing to say and I hate myself and everyone else for turning away from the signs. They’re all pointing your way. So don’t make this hard and don’t fall apart now. So black in your veins but you’re golden to me. Seduced by the dark. The light’s hard to find now and I hope you’re fine now.”
