Maudlin Strangers, the vehicle for the lush, synth-laced music of Agoura Hills’ Jake Hays, have signed to Vagrant Records, which will re-release his “Overdose” EP on Jan. 20. The band, which now includes live members Jeff Lehrer, Kenny Benson and Richie Gonzales, is coming off a year that saw the self-released EP propel Hays and his mates to a successful residency at the Bootleg and, coming up, a tour with L.A. wunderkinds Bad Suns. Maudlin Strangers’ new song “Aim” is characteristically moody and melodic, imbued with the hope, as C.S. Lewis once wrote, that “there are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
