Maudlin Strangers are finishing 2015 as strongly as they started it. In January, Vagrant put out their previously self-released EP “Overdose,” and although the band has since parted ways with the label, the year has seen songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jake Hays and his live crew of Jeff Lehrer, Kenneth Benson and Richie McPherson hit the road on tours big and small, including a run supporting Cold War Kids. In recent weeks, Hays has teased two new songs from his bedroom recording project. Both fit right into his “dark disco” world, although Gingerale is more, well, fizzy than his previous work. Both are built on ’80s synth riffs and Hays’ intense vocals. Expect a new EP in the new year.
