[Wherever Tim Armstrong is celebrating his birthday tonight is where I’d wanna be … but absent that party invitation, I’ve have a tough decision when it comes to tonight’s entertainment:]

They’re calling their tour “Rock ‘n’ Roll Means Well,” and I guess it does when the tour offers the twinbill of the Hold Steady and the Drive-By Truckers. Here’s a rundown of Monday night’s show in San Francisco, and here’s an item from Sunday’s show in Portland. Tonight, all the well-meaning takes place at the Wiltern. … Atlanta’s Deerhunter brings its big noise to the El Rey Theatre — look out, chandeliers — while Coldplay takes to the arena at Anaheim’s Honda Center (which may not be as cool as next September’s U.K. stadium dates, when Jay-Z will be supporting them). … The Rosebuds [pictured], along with funnyman Jonah Ray and local pop-rockers Lemon Sun, play Indie 103.1’s Check One Twodays at the Echoplex. … Danger Bees and So Many Wizards team up at the Silverlake Lounge. … And it’s great to see Gary Jules back in town –”  his new album, Bird,” is out this week, and he returns for a string of Tuesdays at the Hotel Cafe.
