[Cue up the Stone Roses’ “She Bangs the Drums” — it’s Meg White’s birthday …]

longwave-albumDidn’t have time to prepare a proper review around its Nov. 11 release, but let me say this briefly about Longwave’s fourth album “Secrets Are Sinister:” It’s some of the finest guitar rock of 2008. Urgent, fuzzy, big, textural, even a little bit Anglophile. It’s in the console of my car and it’ll stay there a few months, at least. I mention this because the New York quartet — which had some horrible luck on the business side that resulted in their getting dropped by RCA and making this record on their own — plays the Troubadour tonight. … Big party downtown at Club Nokia, where Indie 103.1’s Wreck the Halls holiday show has the Pretenders, Bloc Party, CSS and the Black Kids. … I see that the old friend of Arthur magazine, Godsmack’s Sully Erna, is playing the Music Box @ Fonda. … The Zappa Plays Zappa series of shows kicks off at the Roxy. … At the Hotel Cafe, it’s El Ten Eleven and Obi Best [see previous two days’ posts]. …Pop Levi headlines Club NME at Spaceland. … And because you never know where your singer-songwriter fix might lead you, there’s Shannon Hurley’s early set at Genghis Cohen.
