“Razorlight Set to Take on U.S.” I think I first read that headline in January, 2005, when the British quartet began in earnest to market their wares here – only to have its tour scotched because of frontman’s Johnny Borrell’s vocal problems. A 2006 tour didn’t go much better, canceled because tourmates Keane had to cancel. In between their platinum-selling successes in the U.K., Razorlight did make it to L.A. (March 2007 at the El Rey, a good one), and have had some modest success in the U.S. Now they begin again; their new album “Slipway Fires” comes out here in March (here’s the video for the single “Wire to Wire”), and the band plays to a sold-out Troubadour tonight, with up-and-coming locals Red Cortez opening. … Here’s one show that’s not happening: The Bronx’s gig at the Echoplex has been cancelled. … At Spaceland Miranda Lee Richards kicks off a Tuesday residency with support from Magic Mirror and the Shore. … Australia’s Screaming Jets rises from the ashes, playing their first U.S. show in a decade, at the Key Club. … The Fruit Bats play the Echo. … And Evan Voytas, Monster and Rachael Cantu line up at the Silverlake Lounge
Tonight I’ll be checking out English crooner Findlay Brown @ Hotel Cafe. His upcoming sophomore album was produced by Bernard Butler and you can hear it all over it.
