[Neither of these is particularly hot-off-the-presses, but I love both songs and feel like sharing;]
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s self-titled debut remains in heavy rotation at Buzz Bands HQ, and the New York quartet” will be back in Los Angeles for a show at the Echo on July 20, two days after they play the Pitchfork Fest in Chicago. This tune, “Young Adult Friction,” is one of the album’s highlights.

Maybe it was the timing of the release (last November), but I get the feeling Longwave’s “Secrets Are Sinister,” the Brooklyn quartet’s first album in three years, didn’t get the juice it deserved. It’s a big shoegazey record that’s liable to have you playing chord progressions on your steering wheel (but watch your freeway speed) … oh, you mean nobody does that but me? This gorgeously atmospheric track, “The Devil & the Liar,” rewards the patient.
