Tonight in L.A.: Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, the Hold Steady

[Good morning. I will say one thing about “The Essential Michael Jackson” collection – it’s an excellent way to drown out the drone of the helicopters covering today’s Michael Jackson Memorial.]

kittydaisylewisKitty, Daisy & Lewis [pictured] are rockabilly throwbacks who play the kind of music I imagine the nursing staff must have been listening to about the time I was born (that was the 1950s, kids). The sibling band, ages 16, 19 and 21, has charmed the dickens out of their native London, has an album coming Aug. 4, has earned a support slot on the Coldplay tour (including July 18 at the Home Depot Center) and visits the Echo tonight, supported by Le Switch. … The Hold Steady return to L.A., playing the El Rey Theatre with El Bronx – the mariachi tunes-playing alter ego of L.A. punk stalwarts the Bronx. … It’s the album-release party for LMFAO’s debut “Party Rock,” and having breezed through the tunes one time I can testify that it’s exactly as advertised. Check your brain at the door tonight at the Roxy (or Wednesday at the Canyon Club, or Thursday at the Galaxy Concert Theatre). … Vieux Farka Touré visits the Troubadour, with Luke Top opening. … Australia’s the Captains, in town working on their album with Rick Parker (the Dandy Warhols, BRMC, Miranda Lee Richards), play the Silverlake Lounge. … Also: The Fishtank Ensemble at Bordello; New Faces at the Knitting Factory; the kickoff to Brightmillion’s residency at the Dragonfly; Yes at the Gibson Amphitheatre; and Bleu at the Hotel Cafe.
