[Happy birthday, Juliana Hatfield, and thanks for songs.]

morningaftergirls2July goes out with a bang this week, starting with some enticing shows tonight: Jarvis Cocker headlines the Wiltern behind his recent release “Further Complications,” an album that, owing to the strength of its storytelling, keeps on giving. [Cocker is giving away a remix of “You’re in My Eyes (Discosong)” here.] … I also haven’t been able to stay away from “Alone,” the new album from New York-based Australian psych-rockers the Morning After Girls (who were impressive when I saw them back in January). The band [pictured] will be back in L.A. at Spaceland in late August, but tonight it’s a little pre-tour gig at the Hotel Cafe. … Tonight’s installment of the International Pop Overthrow Festival, at Molly Malone’s, is “Girls Night Out,” and the all-female lineup includes the estimable Kay Hanley. … There’s another Girls Night Out the sold-out Gibson Amphitheatre, where No Doubt, Paramore and the Sounds perform. … Fresh from theirappearance at their label’s Mergefest in North Carolina, Radar Bros. hold forth at Bordello, joined by the Minor Canon. … Sub Pop’s hotly tipped Tiny Vipers visit Echo Curio. … The Andy Clockwise residency at Spaceland has proven a reliable party all month, and it ends tonight with a bang, with a visit from London wardrobe queen Ebony Bones, whose “The Muzik” seems to have an effect on people. … Starlight Mints are at the Troubadour (with Castledoor playing early). … The Mekons play the Echo, while downstairs at the Echoplex the residency by Japanese Motors winds up with support from Thee Makeout Party. … The Monthlies support the final night of the Silverlake Lounge residency of Last American Buffalo. … And Ash Reiter and Rilo Kiley’s Pierre de Reeder play the Bootleg Theater.
