Avi Buffalo, the young Long Beach quartet that has captured the fancy of L.A.’s indie scene the past year, has finalized its long-rumored deal with Sub Pop Records. The band’s first official release, scheduled for December, will be a 7-inch single featuring the songs “What’s In It For?” and “Jessica,” with a full-length album to follow next spring.

The band, fronted by 18-year-old Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg, made its album with Aaron Embry. The foursome’s cherubic appearance (the oldest member of the band, which includes drummer Sheridan Riley, bassist Arin Fazio and keyboardist-singer Rebecca Coleman, is 20) and wide-eyed approach to its craft belies its sound – which is riff-spiked folk rock that is sometimes sweet, sometimes prickly and always brutally honest.

Those who’ve followed Avi Buffalo’s incubation are none too surprised that Sub Pop A&R chief Tony Kiewel was also seduced. Bring on the spring.
