The final night of Kan Wakan’s February residency at the Echoplex spoke to the embarrassment of riches that Monday nights bestow on Los Angeles music fans. The local septet, whose debut album is on the way this spring, brought in a string quartet for the finale, which also featured a guest turn from opener Moses Sumney. Oh, and was that a cover of Philip Glass? Now that’s something you don’t hear at a club every night. Sumney preceded Kan Wakan with a handful of songs – including a Drake cover – performed without his usual looping setup (presumably that will return Thursday when he opens for Dr. Dog at the Wiltern, and at his just-announced residency in March at the Bootleg). That followed an acoustic set – including some new songs – by Avi Zahner-Isenberg of Avi Buffalo, whose new album might arrive this year on Sub Pop. Holy Folk got the proceedings off to a rousing start with their harmony-rich pop-Americana. Even if you didn’t sneak upstairs to the Echo to catch some of Krea & the Lesbians’ great residency (which many fans did), it was a bountiful night.
