Tonight: Love the buzzy take on classic rock from Philadelphia’s Kurt Vile [pictured], whose album “Childish Prodigy” (just out on Matador) make low-fi highly engaging. Out with his touring band, Kurt Vile & The Violators are headlining Spaceland. … Ben Gibbard and Jay Farrar, who collaborated on “One Fast Move or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur” hit the El Rey tonight. … Castledoor, joined by We Barbarians, play the Bootleg Theater. Also: Mika at the Palladium; Blind Pilot and the Low Anthem at the Troubadour; Dragonette at the Echo; Discotheque and Yacht at Temporary Spaces; Manhattan Murder Mystery at Echo Curio; Spindrift and Xu Xu Fang at the Viper Room; Tiger Army’s first of two nights at the Wiltern; Tech N9ne at the House of Blues; and Those Darlins at the Hotel Cafe.

Saturday: It’s a good night to got get your ’80s on – Echo & the Bunnymen headlines the Nokia Theatre, with one of that decade’s sonic offspring, She Wants Revenge, opening. … Banjo- and fiddle-wielding Frank Fairfield [pictured] brings his gorgeous old-timey folk music to Amoeba for a 2 p.m. in-store. … Also: Islands, with Jemina Pearl (ex-Be Your Own Pet), at the Troubadour; Weezer at the Palladium; Tiger Army at the Wiltern; Daniel Johnston at the Fonda; Kid Sister and Flosstradamus at the Echo; Abe Vigoda at the Smell; United States of Electronica at Spaceland; El Ten Eleven at the Bootleg Theater; and Valient Thorr and Early Man at the Viper Room.

Sunday: The Rose Bowl will be rockin’ for U2. Remember to check your public transportation options. … Tegan & Sara, whose sixth album album “Sainthood” comes out Tuesday, play the Orpheum Theater (the Quin twins will be doing a signing at StoriesLA in Echo Park on Tuesday, by the way). … Greg Laswell celebrates the release of his “Covers” EP at the Hotel Cafe. … It’s Linda Ronstadt Y Mariachi at the Gibson Amphitheatre. … At Casey’s downtown, it’s the Parson Redheads, Hymns and the Street & Babe Shadow. … And there’s the BEDROCKtoberfest at the new Bedrock recording/rehearsal complex in Echo Park, with performances by Learning Music, Fort Wife and Evan Way of the Parson Redheads.
