carybrothers1-heidirossTonight: Cary Brothers’ new album “Under Control” came out last week – anybody who liked “Blue Eyes” from the “Garden State” soundtrack, or songs such as “Ride” and “Honestly” off 2007’s “Who You Are,” will love where the Nashville-bred artist  has gone with his songcraft. Brothers returns to one of his favorite haunts, the Hotel Cafe, tonight to celebrate the album release. …. Big hip-hop lineup at Spaceland tonight, topped by the the Knux and Nocando. … At the Highland Park American Legion Hall (227 N. Ave. 55), there’s an amazing stroke of international relations: three bands visiting from China playing along with three bands from L.A., Carsick Cars, P.K. 14 and Av-Okubo, with the Monolators, Signals and M31. … And at Club Underground at the Echo, Spirit Animal leads the dance party. … Also: : Andrew W.K. at the Key Club; Nikka Costa at the Roxy; Owl City at Club Nokia; Gavin Castleton at 14 Below in Santa Monica; Murder By Death at the Troubadour; Les Blanks and the World Record doing a free show at Casey’s downtown; the Janks and Family of the Year at the Bootleg Theater; Modern Time Machines at Pehrspace; Bad Religion at the House of Blues Anaheim; and Opeth at the Wiltern.

Saturday: There’s a fearsome foursome of local rockers teaming up at the Echoplex – Saint Motel, Voxhaul Broadcastthe Pity Party and Mississippi Man. … Liars lead the way at the El Rey Theatre with L.A. art-pop provocateurs Fol Chen opening. … Ex-Moldy Peaches frontman Adam Green performs at the Troubadour. … And Robotanists celebrate the release of their “Shapes and Variations” EP at Edgar Varela Fine Arts (209. S. Garey St.). … Also: Olin and the Moon and Wires in the Walls at the Bootleg Theater; Slough Feg at Spaceland; Bad Religion at the house of Blues; Rocco DeLuca and Truth & Salvage Co. at Saint Rocke; the Health Club and Manhattan Murder Mystery at Mr. T’s Bowl; and Graydon at the Hotel Cafe.

Sunday: The deliciously twangy Grand Ole Echo returns to the Echo for another season. The early evening gathering is one of the most reliable outposts for country and Americana music in the city – and there’s barbecue. It kicks off at 5 p.m. and on the bill this week are I See Hawks in LA and a new band calling themselves Wheelhouse featuring members of the Broken West. … Also early in the evening, the Living Sisters play a free in-store at Amoeba.
