[Smile, break into song and wish the man born Stevland Hardaway Judkins, whom you know as Stevie Wonder, a happy 60th birthday. As icing on the cake, I offer tonight’s music desserts:]

Massive shows, mini shows, tonight has it all – just for grins, I’ll start out small: The lineup of local bands at the Echo is good and deep. A cheap ticket gets you Mississippi Man, Pepper Rabbit, White Arrows and the Fling. … At the Silverlake Lounge, See Green plays in the middle of a lineup that includes Illinois psych-poppers Common Loon and L.A.’s Deep Sleep Ops. [That’s See Green’s video for “Devil in the Details,” above, and I can’t decide – cute or creepy?] … Canadians  the Besnard Lakes hit the Troubadour, supported by the Happy Hollows. … In the bigger rooms, it’s Jakob Dylan and Three Legs featuring Neko Case and Kelly Hogan (supported by the Felice Brothers and HoneyHoney) at the Wiltern, and Ben Folds and a Piano at the Fonda Theatre. … And then there are the legends du jour – James Taylor and Carole King reliving their “Live at the Troubadour” set at the Hollywood Bowl. … Also: City Museum’s farewell show at the Viper Room; Jamie Drake’s album-release show for “When I Was Yours” at the Hotel Cafe; Drake at sold-out Club Nokia; Crash Kings at the Roxy; Ninjasonik at Spaceland; Frank Fairfield at Echo Curio; John Carpenter at Space 15 Twenty; Hypocrisy at the House of Blues; and Carney at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa.
