The Lonely Forest – the first signing to the Trans label launched by Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie – debuted their first batch of Walla-produced music this week, a digital-only EP of beautiful piano-driven rock. It has a lot going for it – sweeping arrangements crash in and out behind addictive melodies and easygoing vocals that feel like old friends. The first single, “Live There” takes a shot at our fair city in the first 30 seconds but ends up being more about the Anacortes, Wash., quartet’s absolute love of their native Northwest. The Lonely Forest’s next full-length, “Arrows,” is due early next year.
