New Year’s Eve: Musically speaking …

0

[2010, don’t let the door hit you in the ass … But as you leave, please do so melodically:]

My top 5 musical outings* for New Year’s Eve:

‣ The Raveonettes and Autolux at the Standard Hotel Hollywood. Actually, I’d be interested to hear both those bands cover Auld Lang Syne. ($60).
‣ Lucinda Williams at the Viper Room. ($100)
‣ Gram Rabbit at Casey’s Bar downtown. Spent NYE with Gram Rabbit a few years ago at the Echo and it was a blast. ($119 gets you access to eight downtown bars – and all open bars at that.)
‣ Kenan Bell and Nite Jewel at Club Underground at the Echo. Reliably good club night, with two great L.A. up-and-comers on the bill. ($15)
‣ Royal Crown Revue at the Mint. If NYE isn’t time to swing, when is? ($27)
* If you’re into dance music, Avalon NYE with John Digweed, HARD NYE at the Music Box, Giant NYE at the Palladium or Together as One at the Sports Arena will be more your thing.

Also: Mayer Hawthorne at the Viceroy in Santa Monica, Camp Freddy (and probably some famous friends) at the Roxy; NOFX at the Wiltern; the Warlocks (I did NYE with those guys back in the day at the Little Radio Warehouse and it was a blast) and more right here.
