Who: The New Pornographers on the Outdoor stage
In 3 Words Or Fewer: Our hands together.
I Will Remember This Until: Neko Case’s lovely face on the jumbo screen doesn’t have an effect on those currently on the move at an outdoor festival. Although their set started while Broken Social scene were still going on the main stage, the New Pornographers pulled in a deserving crowd to take in the harmonic convergence of Case and band founder Carl Newman. With or without Case, the band has survived and grown in kindred spirits during the last few years, but there is a certain grace that always results from the union of Newman and Case’s vocals. These duets have always remained the source of comfort on songs such as “The Laws Have Changed” and “These Are the Fables.” Perhaps this familial gratification is also what led to a partly sit-down crowd, but people resting their feet certainly didn’t cripple the band’s solid set that ended with “The Bleeding Heart Show.” Everyone’s hands were still working to give the New Pornographers a proper bravo.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was At Yelle: This wasn’t a discotheque, but at least I didn’t need a translator for this set.
