Fool’s Gold, the sprawling collective whose genre-mashing 2009 debut fused dance-pop and Afro rhythms and spawned club hits sung in Hebrew, are back. Only this time they are leaner, and from the sound of things, possibly meaner. The band announced today that its their new album “Leave No Trace” would be out Aug. 16 on IAMSOUND Records. Their numbers have dwindled – Fool’s Gold is now a quintet featuring the pair who started it all, singer Luke Top and guitarist Lewis Pesacov, along with multi-instrumentalist Brad Caulkins, percussionist Salvador Placencia and drummer Garrett Ray – and their aesthetic has expanded to embrace, Pesacov says, “the sound of synth-based English new wave.” The new album’s lyrics are all in English this time, and if the first song, “Street Clothes,” is indicative of “Leave No Trace’s” direction, we’re headed there too.
