Sometimes it’s difficult for bands who do straight-ahead rock – even as competently as Nashville four-piece Mona does it – to get any attention at home without resorting to gimmickry. So it was for the quartet of Nick Brown, Jordan Young, Zach Lindsey and Vince Gard, who took their show on the road and found enthusiastic audiences for their Cold War-era swagger in the U.K. A bunch of nifty press notices from the likes of the BBC, NME, MTV UK and Q magazine later, Mona takes on the U.S. in earnest: Their self-titled album comes out Sept. 6, and fresh off a tour supporting the Airborne Toxic Event, they hit L.A. this week. “Listen to Your Love” isn’t the kind of song you haven’t heard before, but it can still get your fists pumping.
