[Happy July. In some parts of the world, today is known as Canada Day. In other parts, it’s Sufjan Stevens’ birthday.]

Holiday weekend starts here:

‣ Oklahoma’s Other Lives, whose album “Tamer Animals” should be part of your lives by now, visit the Satellite for the second time in the past six week. This time they’re supporting the Rosebuds, whose fifth album “Loud Planes Fly Low” just came out on Merge.
Japanese Popstars, the Irish electro trio whose album “Controlling Your Allegiance” features guest vocals from Robert Smith, Morgan Kibby (M83/White Sea), Lisa Hannigan, Tom Smith (Editors) and others, lead the party at the Avalon.
Blonde Redhead plays the Echoplex for an installment of Franki Chan’s Check Yo Ponytail.
The Growlers bring their dark, lo-fi surf music to a sold-out Troubadour.
‣ And the Vans Warped Tour barrels into the Fairplex at Pomona, featuring Against Me!, the Aggrolites and and host of others. As they have been in past years, Against Me! (pictured) alone is worth the price of admission.
