Ears Wide Open: Big Harp

For most of a decade, Stefanie Drootin has had one foot in her native Los Angeles and the other in Omaha’s indie scene. She’s been a member of the Tim Kasher (Cursive) project the Good Life, and performed with Bright Eyes, She & Him and Azure Ray, among others. Her latest collaboration with singer-guitarist Chris Senseney (Art in Manila) transcends music – she’s now Stefanie Drootin-Senseney, and the couple has two children. Between parenting duties, they’ve also made an album as Big Harp. “White Hat” offers two-whiskey roots music anchored by the mister’s woozy baritone, ruminative in a way only a small-own guy from Nebraska can be. The album was recorded with Rilo Kiley’s Pierre de Reeder, and it’ll be out Sept. 13 on Saddle Creek.
