Video: FIDLAR, ‘Wait for the Man’

2

“F*ck it dog, life’s a risk.” It’s a statement that truly sums up the music of FIDLAR and one which has given birth to their acronym band name. The surf-cum-garage rock made by Zac Carper and friends seems fueled by cheap beer and youthful anger – longtime staples in both good punk rock and excellent parties – but what makes FIDLAR stand out among bands who mete out similarly low-fi squalor is their infectiousness. When you’re done shouting along with their choruses in sweaty clubs, you might be humming them on the street. “Wake Bake Skate,” “Cheap Beer” and the undeniable “Max Can’t Surf” seem loosed from from some time capsule holding the archives of the Ramones and Generation X, with their spirit of rebellion intact. Theirs is punk that’s as unrestrained as Ty Segall and more melodically immediate than Wavves, and it demands only that you turn it up. FIDLAR has already released one 7-inch single for White Iris, “DIYDUI,” and has another in works. Details soon.
