[It’s Friday… Add these covers to a mixtape soundtracking your forthcoming weekend shenanigans.]

Asobi Seksu, “Never Understand (Jesus & Mary Chain cover)” ”“”“ New York’s shoegaze dream-poppers take on one of the classics from the album “Psychocandy.” The musicality on their rendition is spot on with the exception of Yuki Chikudate’s sweet vocals. The cover will be included on their forthcoming digital single release which also includes a cover of the Walkmen’s “Little House of Savages” and new song “Hmm Hmm Him.”

Anna Rose, “My Body Is a Cage (Arcade Fire cover)” ”“”“ Folk rock songstress Anna Rose is currently working on a follow-up to her 2010 album, “Nomad,” and in anticipation of new tracks she’s offered this haunting version of the Arcade Fire classic “My Body is a Cage.” There’s minimal instrumentation in comparison to Arcade Fire’s original orchestration, but her soulful vocals make it an interesting listen — especially when paired up with the video shot by famed director Moh Azima. Watch it here.

Evan Voytas, “Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince cover)” ”“”“ L.A. falsetto crooner Evan Voytas, who is back from a trip in London where he recorded his forthcoming EP “Feel Me,” offers an appropriate cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Considering the eclectic soul Voytas embodies in his original material, this reinterpretation is nothing but smooth. Expect the new EP sometime in early 2012 via Dovecote Records.
