Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance had been friends since childhood, but it’s their recent musical relationship as Jamestown Revival that has gotten national attention. Setting aside their solo careers to join together as a two-man show producing what they call “indie rock with a southern slant,” the Austin-bred duo’s music also embodies plenty of other playful combinations. Staying true to old-timey roots with their song structures and organic instrumentation but modernly spinning the vibe with soulful vocal riffs and harmonies, Clay and Chance fulfill the roles they’ve given themselves as “The architect and the healer.” With sturdy folk-rock foundations and colorful melodies filling in all the spaces, their “Knives and Pipes” EP (out via Raw Earth Records) is quite the smooth listen.
