[New tunes from three artists rolling in to L.A this week…]

The Tallest Man On Earth, “1904” – We get a glimpse of Kristian Matsson’s new material on the forthcoming “There’s No Leaving Now,” out Tuesday on Dead Oceans. Although the Swedish singer played up the bare-bones acoustic vibe as his strengths over the years, “1904” tells us Matsson has finally given in to the electric guitar. But the 7-inch single  (with “Cycles” as a b-side ) reveals that his songwriting hasn’t been stripped of raw beauty. The Tallest Man On Earth plays Tuesday at the Wiltern.

Sea of Bees, “Gone” – Julie Ann Bee’s latest record “Orangefarben” may have stemmed from a different place in her heart, but she’s a fearless explorer of her own emotional depths, and that’s what makes songs such as “Gone” so great –  heartbreaking, warm and beautiful all at once. Sea of Bees plays tonight at Bardot, Wednesday at the Echo and Friday as part of the New LA Folk Festival-presented show at the Sanctuary.

How To Dress Well, “Ocean Floor For Everything” – Most L.A. folks know Tom Krell’s voice on Active Child’s hit track “Playing House,” but Chicago’s How To Dress Well had gained attention long before, thanks to a slew of free digital EPs featuring his experimental lo-fi R&B songs. His skills in manipulating noise around melodies in an avant-garde fashion were the most polished on last album “Love Remains.” Krell now follows up with “Total Loss” (out this fall through Acéphale) and the delicately warped “Ocean Floor For Everything” is our first taste. How to Dress Well plays Saturday at the Echo.
