Ears Wide Open: Poolside

L.A.’s Poolside isn’t asking you to do anything but join them by the poolside, and why wouldn’t you? As the holiday weekend continues and summer heat begins to rise, splashing around with friends seems like the only way to cool down. The duo comprised of Jeffery Paradise and Filip Nikolic not only understand the concept, but they’ve run with it by working shimmering synths, groovy disco-like bass lines and hazy falsetto on their appropriately titled debut album “Pacific Standard Time.” Releasing the record next week on their own label Day and Night, Poolside boasts songs such as “Slow Down,” a kind of advertisement for the laid-back lifestyle in SoCal, and sun-kissed warbles and bumping beats are nicely illustrated in the Shahana Khan-directed video. Summer tunes come and go; this one will warm you up and cool you down, all in under five minutes.
