Video: Beirut, ‘The Rip Tide’

For the first minute or so, the Houmam Abdallah-directed music video for Beirut‘s “The Rip Tide” features a ship gliding languorously, moving along to the rhythm of the one of the best tracks off Beirut’s album from 2011. But then just a little before the 3:00 mark, inky clouds descend to serve as a surreal backdrop and create a rainbow-filled sky for the little ship that could. Zach Condon, who records under the moniker Beirut, was especially pleased with Abdallah’s direction and shares, “The concept fit, and the product brought the song somewhere that I had only been able to describe to myself, now available for others to see and feel it much more as I had in the process of writing it.”
