Download: The Helio Sequence, ‘Hall of Mirrors’

The Helio Sequence’s exercises in Eno-influenced pop peaked with 2008’s gorgeously cinematic “Keep Your Eyes Ahead,” but longtime collaborators Brandon Summers (vocals/guitar) and Benjamin Weikel (keys/drums) have reloaded for their first album in four years. Judging from the first two singles, “Negotiations,” due Sept. 11 via Sub Pop, furthers the Helio Sequence’s explorations in deeply introspective tomes with ambient backdrops. The duo has always used reverb just so, and Summers’ vocals have never sounded stronger. And, in an interesting twist, the new album (at certain retailers) will come with a quadrophonic companion CD titled “Aces,” designed to be played simulataneously with “Negotiations” on separate stereo systems. Audiophiles, take note.

I’ve been hearing great things about The Helio Sequence but I never got around to listening to them till now. These track are spot on, great atmosphere and catchy without being remotely cheesy. If the rest of the album is like these tracks, then it will be awesome!
