Download: Abandoned Pools, ‘Unrehearsed’

It’s been a long road for Tommy Walter, but the multi-instrumentalist (and co-founder of Eels) is on the brink of releasing his third album as Abandoned Pools. “Sublime Currency,” due Aug. 28 on Tooth & Nail Records, follows 2005’s “Armed to the Teeth” and 2001’s “Humanistic,” two releases that while critically well-received fell prone to the pratfalls of the music industry. In the years since, Walter has been busy as a side man, co-writer and producer for myriad artists – all duties well-suited to the songcraft on “Sublime Currency,” a sublimely polished album that figures to not only have the emo kids swooning but that, owing to Walter’s open-hearted confrontations with his own struggles, adults will find relatable as well. As returns go, Abandoned Pools’ is at least brave, if not happy.
