‣ The Sunset Strip Music Festival goes all-out on the eve of the fifth annual event’s big street festival: X, doing their album “Los Angeles” headlines the Roxy Theatre (Ray Manzarek is X’s special guest, and the Stripminers support). Hank III holds forth at the House of Blues. And James Ingram rocks the Whisky.
‣ The Play MOCA series at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA continues with Zola Jesus and Active Child performing.
‣ Local rockers on the rise at the Troubadour, where IO Echo and Kitten serve as support for headliner Charli XCX.
‣ Singer-songwriters of distinction are the order of the night at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, where Sean Rowe and Soko team up. [See Rowe’s “Downwind” here.]
