Video: Opossom, ‘Blue Meanies’

Opossom is the new project of Kody Neilson, brother of Unknown Mortal Orchestra‘s Ruben, both former members of Portland (by way of Auckland, New Zealand) art punks the Mint Chicks. “Blue Meanies” is the lead single from Opossom’s debut “Electric Hawaii,” out now on Fire Records. Neilson is joined by his partner Bic Runga – an accomplished artist in her own right and a part of the fabric of the New Zealand music scene for more than 10 years – and fellow Mint Chick Michael Logie, who both help to bring the songs to life in a live setting. Expect deft instrument swapping and a tougher, more focused vibe than the woozy pop-psychedelia on display on the album. Recommended.
