After one listen to Crushed Out’s latest single, you might wonder why the Brooklyn duo didn’t keep their original name, Boom Chick, which perfectly describes the beat in their Delta blues-laden rock ’n’ roll. But something like a name change hasn’t slowed down Frank Hoier and Moselle Spiller. Their debut full-length “Want to Give” (out now on their label Cool Clear Water Records) is full of fuzzy power chords and surf-rock garage percussion, and “Push Down and Twist,” in particular, serves as commentary on prescription pill addiction as much as it provides instruction for a hip new dance. Their song structures recall the wild heart of early American guitar rock, which means the frenetic energy doesn’t come with one ounce of frill.
