‣ Punch Brothers bring their memorable bluegrass music to the Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State L.A.. The Milk Carton Kids – the L.A. duo of Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan, recently signed to Anti- Records – open.
‣ Karl Wallinger [pictured] and World Party return to L.A. for a date at the Troubadour in support of April’s release of the five-disc retrospective, “Arkeology.” World Party, of course, were a familiar presence to the “120 Minutes” generation, releasing fine albums through 2000’s “Dumbing Up,” but in 2001 Wallinger suffered an aneurysm that sidelined him for five years.
‣ Long-running punk rockers Bad Brains, their first album in five years “Into the Future” just out, rock the Fonda Theatre, supported by H2O and Year of the Dragon.
‣ And Sam Sparro’s follow-up to his 2008 debut – “Return to Paradise” – will (finally) come out next Tuesday … curiously, a December release … and while that’s strange it should be a party tonight when he headlines the Bootleg Theater.
