Stream: In Waves, ‘A Walk’

Jimmy Vincent is recognized these days for his various acting gigs – he’s the guy with the falcon, for one – but back in the day he was an indie-rock explorer with a fetish for gorgeous, ambient drone. In the mid-Aughts, Vincent played in a duo, then a trio, called In Waves, whose goth-inspired compositions turned the volume and reverb up to 11. Rather than the wall of sound, though, the appeal was In Waves’ compositional qualities, heavily repetitive and even hypnotic. Vincent passed around a lot of demos and even some finished tracks in those days, and In Waves played a handful of shows (including opening for the Lassie Foundation at a certain writer’s birthday show in November, 2006). Now, abetted by two of his longtime friends who are making big waves in music themselves – producer Ariel Rechtshaid and producer/guitarist/composer Lewis Pesacov (both ex-Foreign Born), In Waves’ self-titled album has been released via Bandcamp. Shoegazers, unite.
