The Week Ahead: July 22-28

1

Incoming: Wolfmother, the Postal Service, Savages, Bastille, Davis Fetter, Futurebirds, PAPA, the Happy Hollows, NO, Candlebox, the 1975, Big Freedia, Hockey, Saint Motel, the Belle Brigade, Modest Mouse, Skylar Grey, No Age, Night Terrors of 1927, Glassjaw, Dan Wilson, Twin Shadow, Bauhaus, Rancid, Viva Pomona, International Pop Overthrow, the Cult, Courtney Love, Frightened Rabbit, Fitz & the Tantrums, Geographer, Dave Alvin, Bruno Mars, Chico Trujillo, Radical Something, Save Ferris, John Mayer, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Amy Grant, Weekend, Ozomatli

Above: Bastille is ready to storm the U.S. The London-based band, the work of singer-multi-instrumentalist Dan Smith, has already struck gold on its home turf with the soundscape-y electro-rock on the EP “Haunt,” and the video for the single “Pompeii” has accumulated 30 million-plus views, which means either that it’s great or that the Virgin Records interns have been busy. Bastille arrives in L.A. on Tuesday for a sold-out show at the Troubadour (and the band’s Sept. 18 at the El Rey Theatre is already sold out too).

Our staff picks of the week:

@KRBronson recommends: Unless you saw them at Coachella, see the Postal Service at the Greek Theatre. It’s been 10 years (and 154 days) since “Give Up” was released, and Ben, Jimmy and Jenny are making the rounds to celebrate. (And if you did catch them at Coachella, there’s the big No Age/Tijuana Panthers double-bill on Thursday night at the Santa Monica Pier.)

@Seraphina_L recommends: U.K. post-punk band Savages return to L.A. in support of their highly regarded debut “Silence Yourself.” The all-female quartet have a two-night stint at El Rey Theatre starting on Tuesday. Johnny Hostile serves as direct support.
