For the past two-plus years, I have been privileged to host the L.A. Buzz Bands Show on KCSN (88.5 FM), a weekly hour of local music that showcases a diverse selection of local artists. It’s frequently been the first FM airplay for many, and hopscotching between rock, pop, folk and electro, the show is not beholden to “formateers” you might hear elsewhere. It’s been rewarding as well to witness the rise in KCSN’s profile – “Best Public Radio Station You’re Not Already Listening To,” says LA Weekly – but as a listener-supported station, it’s the time of year we ask for your help. On tonight’s special edition of L.A. Buzz Bands (9 p.m.), I’ll be doing a little pitching (emphasis on the “little,” since KCSN hosts are instructed not to talk your ears off) in between spinning recent favorites from Kan Wakan, Victory, Cillie Barnes, Haim, Distant Cousins and In the Valley Below. I’ll have new music from Holychild, LA Font, Haunted Summer, Holland Greco and Patrick Park as well.
