Ears Wide Open: Bavaria

Techno wizard John Tejada has a long and estimable resumé as a DJ, producer and entrepreneur. Satin-voiced Kimi Recor is known for her work in projects such as Black Flamingo and, recently, Draemings (the name under which she is recording a full-length). Together, they are Bavaria – the name deriving from the fact that Tejada has an Austrian father and Recor spent her early youth living in the region. They’ve collaborated before, Recor having appeared on songs dating back to Tejada’s Plug Research days, but Bavaria is the first time they’re doing the distance. Their full-length “We’ll Take a Dive” comes out Feb. 11 via n5md, and it’s exactly what fans of either party should expect: Tejada’s modular synth-scapes are spare yet propulsive, and Recor adds the same visceral element that has made her early recordings as Draemings so dreamy. In subtle ways, they’re breaking through.
