A strong Saturday night:

‣ If you’re up for a night of free music and fun downtown, the Chinese New Year Festival kicks off at Chinatown’s Central Plaza tonight. The LA Weekly Live Music Stage featuring a Buzz Bands LA-curated lineup includes the Happy Hollows, Parade of Lights, Line & Circle, Raw Geronimo, A House for Lions and Hobart W. Fink. The two-day festival welcoming the Year of the Horse includes the 115th Golden Dragon Parade early today. Music starts at noon.
‣ London’s Yuck headlines the Troubadour with support from Orange County’s GRMLN. Check out Yuck’s latest single “Athena” from Friday.
‣ David J (of Bauhaus and Love & Rockets) plays the Viper Room. Also on the bill, the Alarm Science and Teenage Werewolves.
‣ The Autumn Defense (fronted by John Stirratt of Wilco) does a headlining show in support of their latest album “Fifth” at the Bootleg. That’s where Jonathan Rice and Springtime Carnivore join them.
Mansions on the Moon, FMLYBND, Scavenger Hunt, prOfiles and Walla all help fellow bloggers The Burning Ear celebrate its 5th birthday at the Satellite. DJ sets also provided by Hunter Hunted, Saint Motel and more.
‣ The Echo offers a night with Into It. Over It., the project led by songwriter Evan Weiss. The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die, a Great Big Pile of Leaves and French Exit precede the night. [That’s Into It. Over It.’s video for “No Amount of Sound” above.]
‣ The Lyric Theatre (520 N. La Brea Ave.) offers a night with Japanther, Cheap Time, Self Defense Family and Creative Adult.
‣ And the Church on York hosts two separate but very legit shows. You can either enjoy the project of Brussels by-way-of France artist Félicia Atkinson, aka Je Suis Le Petite Chavalier, with support from Lee Noble, or a show with La Luz, Colleen Green, White Fang and Wyatt Blair.
