Coachella-bound indie heroes the Afghan Whigs certainly look as if they’re ready for the desert in the video for the new song “Algiers.” which was directed by Philip Harder and filmed in Agua Dulce near the Santa Clarita Valley. The tune is the first we’re hearing of the material on “Do to the Beast,” the band’s first album in 16 years, due out April 15 on Sub Pop. Main man Greg Dulli told Entertainment Weekly that the song’s spaghetti Western vibe inspired the video, an homage to “High Plains Drifter.” He also explains that last year’s gig during SXSW, which saw the Afghan Whigs and Usher collaborate on “Climax,” helped spur the band’s decision to make a new album, which, though, will not feature original guitarist Rick McCollum.

Properly excited about the new album now.
