Coachella 2014: The Afghan Whigs, back in black

Who: The Afghan Whigs in the Mojave Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Men in black
Memorable Because: Here’s nominating the Cincinnati-bred blues-punkers for Comeback Players of the Year. Their new album “Do to the Beast” (their first since ’98) comes out next week, and Greg Dulli and crew, eight strong, played seven songs from it Friday – “Parked Outside,” “Matamoros,” “Algiers,” “Lottery,” “It Kills,” “Royal Cream” and “I Am Fire.” The set was dark and muscular and serious, and the two lost Coachellan bros in Native American headdresses who wandered in for three songs looked hilariously quizzical, even during Jon Skibic’s rip-roaring guitar solos. Psych-soul magician Van Hunt turned up to guest on a couple tracks, which sounded great despite the mix, and not surprisingly for Friday’s sets on the “Senior Tour” (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the Replacements, Bryan Ferry, the Cult [no offense intended, guys]) the crowd was light. Oh, and “Gentleman” at the end. Turn it up.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was Anywhere Else: Pfft.

they actually sold me on the new album with that performance
who was the guitar player with the gold gibson at the first song?
