Coachella 2014: Mako, good for a sugar rush

Who: Mako in the Sahara Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Swizzle Stick EDMâ„¢
Memorable Because: Mako are a Los Angeles duo who advertise themselves as “progressive electronic dance music,” which makes them guilty of deceptive practices as well as Exhibit A for the argument that people in the Sahara Tent will dance to anything. Logan Light and Alex Seaver poured on their electro syrup thick, and although they sing on most of their tracks, their idea of a “live performance” consisted of the usual button-pushing and self-hyping from atop the Sahara’s DJ throne. Tip of the cap for those fantastic melodies and all the mileage they must get DJs at frat parties, but too much is too much, unless you obsess over Beatport. If so, carry on without me, as you have been. Favorite moment was when an (obviously) Coachella Valley local poked his head in the tent, surveyed the scene and made a U-turn. He was wearing a T-shirt that read: “Why is it called tourist season if we can’t shoot ’em?”
