Video premiere: Pretty Little Demons, ‘Unknown Species’

Ever since they roared out of the North Hollywood School of Rock with a sense of purpose far beyond their years, music has been more than kids’ stuff for Lydia Night and Marlhy Murphy. Night is 13 and Murphy 11, and together they are Pretty Little Demons, a garage-rock duo with a batch of original songs owing to the old school. The “Twin Peaks”-themed video for the new song “Unknown Species” brings out some heavy hitters – yes, that’s Catherine Coulson reprising her role as the Log Lady. And Dr. Palmer is played by none other than Alison Mossheart, who knows something herself about being half a rock duo. The video, filmed in L.A. and Nashville and written, directed and produced by Morgan Higby Night (Lydia’s father), is great slice of weird science. But you don’t need to put the song under a microscope to answer Lydia’s rhetorical question in the lyrics: “Oh can’t you see I’m getting old!,” she exclaims. No, we can’t. And don’t be in such an all-fired hurry.
