KCSN2014NEW-500If mankind can land a spacecraft on a comet more than 300 million miles from Earth, tonight’s L.A. Buzz Bands Show doesn’t feel so special, does it? Probably not, but in lieu of a giant step I will dutifully perform my weekly small feat, sharing an hour of SoCal music starting at 9 p.m. on KCSN (88.5 FM, streaming at KCSN.org). I’ll have songs from recent album releases by the Bots, Francisco the Man, Cold War Kids, Madi Diaz and Pisces, along with new tunes from Christian Letts, Spelles, Freedom Fry, Brooklyn Pets and BØRNS. And tonight’s “Flashback Track” goes back 30 years for a band that’s headlining the Echoplex next Saturday night – and that, friends, is no small feat at all. Below, subject to last-minute tweaking, is the playlist:

Archer Black, “The Smoke”
Avid Dancer, “I Want to See You Dance”
Francisco the Man, “In the Corners”
The Bots, “Won”
Cold War Kids, “All This Could Be Yours”
** The Dream Syndicate, “Still Holding On to You”
Ariel Pink, “Put Your Number in My Phone”
Spelles, “Bird in Cage”
Christian Letts, “Charles de Gaulle”
Brooklyn Pets, “Electric Paws”
BORNS, “Electric Love”
Freedom Fry, “Blackmailed”
Kan Wakan, “Like I Need You”
Madi Diaz, “The Other Side”
Pisces, “Paint a Rocket”
The Fontaines, “Paul Newman”

** Flashback Track: From the Dream Syndicate’s second album, 1984’s “Medicine Show.” Their headlining show on Saturday night at the Echoplex is the band’s first in L.A. since 1988.
