Gang of Four is now down to Gang of One – guitarist Andy Gill is the lone founding member after the departure (again) of vocalist Jon King after the 2011 reunion album “Control.” And while one could fret that Gill risks tainting the post-punk pioneers’ legacy by plowing forward 35 years after the landmark album “Entertainment!,” Gang of Four’s new single suggests the brand is in capable hands. “Broken Talk” features the Kills’ Alison Mosshart, one of a number of collaborators Gill has enlisted for Go4’s new album “What Happens Next” (due Feb. 24). Also on the guest list: Robbie Furze of the Big Pink, Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie’s band), German composer Herbert Grönemeyer, and Japanese producer-composer Hotei. In March, Gill, who turns 59 on New Year’s Day, will captain his new team of singer John “Gaoler” Sterry, bassist Thomas McNiece and drummer Jonny Finnegan (drums) on a month-long U.S. tour that includes a stop at Burgerama. We smile just thinking about that.
